The Grey Sock~

Rummaging through my cupboard,
Sorting through my self-made chaos;
Sweaters to the right,
Summer tops to the left,
Socks in the middle.
Sweaters to the right,
Shorts to the left,
Socks in the middle.

I notice-
One grey sock; Larger than my tiny feet could fathom.
I knew it was yours.
So I try finding its long lost soulmate.
13 pairs of socks.
And one large, grey misfit.
Of all the bygones you left,
It would be weird if I held on to one large, grey sock.

I’m curious, did you notice the grey moody loner while you were packing to leave?
Did you leave it on purpose?
Or was this just another thing you forgot to take? (Like me? *Ahem* I know I’m shamelessly in love. Shush.)
Do you think about me when you come across the loner in your sock drawer? Or is it just me?

Do you still wear a grey sock with a black one and laugh about how misfit loners can survive too ?

Blacks to the right.
Whites to the left.
Greys in the middle.
Did you find a place for your grey misfits?

I’m curious.

A grey sock falls in love with a black sock.
And they live together happily ever after.
Scratch that.
Grey sock feels lost amongst 13 pairs of teeny tiny socks.
Alone. Oddly large. Largely odd.

Grey sock must miss his soulmate, doesn’t he?
I know I do.

Do you still have that soulmate?
Is it lying alone somewhere?
Or, has he too been lost in the chaos of us?

I continue sorting.
Sweaters to the right,
Tshirts to the left.
Socks in the middle.

A blue sock lands up in the pile.
The souvenirs of you are weird, trust me.

I hope blue sock and grey sock fall in love.
Two misfits. Oddly large.
Largely odd.
Like you. Like me.
Happily ever after.
Unlike you, unlike me, unlike us.

I sometimes miss my grey sock. A tiny, warm thing of joy, amongst all the black and white.

Sweaters to the right,
Tshirts to the left.
Blacks to the right.
Whites to the left.
Greys in the middle.
You on the right,
Me on the left.
Socks in between, in the middle.
